Feminist Knowledge | Review Essay: GWS in South Africa

Introductory Comments

This review traces patterns in the political orientation of women's and gender studies in South Africa, with this version being offered as work in progress. One aim of the review is to offer a resource for educators, activists, students and researchers as they establish connections and strategise about ways forward. The present study therefore demonstrates how current work in the field of South African women's and gender studies has built on or developed past trends.

Another objective of the review is to offer a gateway to other resources. Emphasis is therefore placed on identifying important currents, moments, publications and institutions, rather than on detailed analysis. Future work on this document will therefore focus on establishing links to other resources or websites, with the review itself functioning as an introduction and overview.
