Restoring Hope; In Their Own Words
Restoring Hope; In Their Own Words, which is a set of self documented stories of hope by women survivors of sexual violence.
Women and girls remain the primary targets of sexual abuse and torture through rape, forced marriages and defilement during situations of armed conflict. The effects of all these still remain even after the guns have fallen silent. The war on women’s bodies continues in most post conflict communities and many are largely neglected. The persistence of sexual and gender based violence (SGBV) has exacerbated women’s exposure to HIV/AIDS. Since 2008 Isis-WICCE and Urgent Action Fund- Africa (UAF-Africa) implemented a project on the intersection between HIV/AIDS and SGBV in conflict and post conflict setting in Africa with focus on Liberia, Uganda and Zimbabwe.
And from that project we bring you: Restoring Hope; In Their Own Words, which is a set of self documented stories of hope by women survivors of sexual violence.
The stories are an insight into lives of women living with HIV in conflict and post-conflict areas. They offer lessons to all of us engaged in the struggle to ensure a violence-free society for women.
